Generally ,incomplete reduction of oxygen during electron transport chain generate Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) or free radical like H2O2, O2-, OH- etc.

These Free radical has an unpaired valence electron ,and they are highly unstable molecules which react with many biomolecule and damage it. When react with protein then break disulfide bond and denatured it, result in cellular damage.
