Ans- Biofilms are 3 dimensional structure formed by micro organism to adhere on various surfaces ,it provides protection against antimicrobial agents . Eg - A slimy buildup of bacteria that forms on the surfaces of teeth.

Some potential benefits to bacteria of biofilm formation are-

1) Defense- protection from harmful condition in the host

2) colonization - sequestration to a nutrient rich area .

Example - bacteria in a river adhere to the underlying stones , where most nutrients accumulate.
