When you skip a meal, how do your hormones regulate your low blood glucose levels? Explain what happens in detail.
Ans. The blood glucose level is regulated by the hormonal feedback mechanism. The blood glucose level is controlled by the insulin and the glucagon hormone. They work in opposite way or they are antagonistic to each other. The insulin and glucagon hormone both are secreted by the pancrease gland.
The insulin hormone decreases the blood glucose level by converting the extra glucose in the glycogen.
The glucagon hormone increase the glucose levels by converting the glycogen into glucose.
So when we skip the meals, the glucagon hormone is secreted by the pancrease that converts the glycogen into the glucose in the liver. So more glucagon is secreted in this situation and less insulin hormone is secreted. So blood glucose level is maintained.
