Answer #1

Onchocerca volvulus is a protozoa.
It is said as a nematode which causes the disease onchocerciasis also known as the river blindness.
The onchocerca volvulus is a nematode which has two hosts for its replication the human and the black fly (genus- simulium).
In the human the last stage is by the production of microfilariae that is seen in the lymphatics and in the skin. The black fly ingests this microfilariae where the cycle within it begins. The stage where the microfilariae is injected into the human is mainly found in the head and proboscis area of the black fly.
The treatment include ivermectin and the removal of nodules surgically.
