Answer #1

Estivation also known as summer torpor that last for longer duration of time and occurs in amphibians, reptile, and molluscs at high temperature. Estivation occurs when food and water are scare. It reduces the metabolism, hence reduces the uptake of feed and water. prevents the damage due to high temperature.

Torpor also knwon as daily torpor is physiological condition that occurs at high temperature and reduces the body temperature and metabolic rate only for few hours (not for longer duration of time as in estivation). The frequnecy of torpor is high and may occurs every day until temperaure remains high. This occurs in small endotherms and mammal, example bats feed during night time when temperature is low and then go in torpor (sleep) during day when temperature is high. The cycle keeps repeating itself.

What is the probability that all three will burn out within the month? "If something can go wrong, it will go wrong." This funny saying is called Murphy's law. Let's interpret this to mean "If something can go wrong, there is a very high probability that it will eventually go wrong." Suppose...

Some dietitians have suggested that highly acidic diets can have an adverse affect on bone density in humans. Alkaline diets have been marketed to avoid or counteract this effect. Veterinary researchers wondered if the same thing true for cats, and whether an alkaline diet might be beneficial. Two groups of 4 cats each were fed diets for 12 months that differed only in acidifying or alkalinizing properties. The bone mineral density (g/cm2) of each cat was measured at the end...
