What would be required to prove that a phenotype is caused by an epigenetic change?
Epigenetic means the changes on the large regions of a chromosome (on more number of base pairs). It occurs due to environmental changes so these are present till the environment is present.
To prove that a phenotype is caused by an epigenetic Change, the phenotypic character must be heritable I.e., pass from one generation to another. Second thing, chromatin must be modified by any process such as methylation, acetylation etc. and lastly there should not be any change in nucleotide sequence.
