Does Neuropeptide Y (NPY) improve learning and memory, or does it impair learning and memory?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

NPY act as a neuromodulator , neuroplasticity and in memory.it is released by gabanergic neurons and have receptors as Y1 and Y2. NPY act as both ways in enhancing memory as well as impairing it. This depends on the part of brain , NPYrecepters, phase. It acts as resilience factor by impairing stressful , depressed memoried. It acts by working on Y1 receptors in amygdala.

NPY also acts enhances consolidation and retention of models depending upon septial and discriminative type of explicit memory in this case the work is done on Y2receotors located in hippocampal reason. So it works in both ways also enhance the memory and learning and impair the memory and learning.

Which of following statements about learning and memory is FALSE? Memory is all or none: either memories of all types are completely intact or completely lost. In Pavlovian conditioning the development of the conditioned response requires pairing of the conditioned stimulus and the unconditioned stimulus. Place cells are located in the hippocampus. Long term potentiation involves a growth of dendritic spines in the postsynaptic cell.

Does the use of examples improve memory for the concepts being taught? Joe Researcher tested this possibility by teaching 10 subjects 20 concepts each. For each subject, examples were provided to help explain 10 of the new concepts, no examples were provided for the other 10. Joe then tested his subjects memory for the concepts and recorded how many concepts, out of 10, that the subject could remember. Here are his data: Test the above hypothesis at ( alpha=0.05) level?...

Memory can be defined as the persistence of learning over time through the storage and retrieval of information. A specific type of memory is known as flashbulb memory. This type of memory is a clear memory of an emotionally significant moment or event. post an example of flashbulb memory from your own life. Be sure to specify what makes this memory a ‘flashbulb memory’ and how it differs from your other memories. Make sure in your initial post that you...
