  1. List the steps of Glycolysis. Identify which steps are involved in Energy Investment and which steps are involved in Energy Payoff? Note which steps involve a transfer of Energy?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Glycolysis is the biochemical process in which glucose is broken down into pyruvic acid by a series of interdependent biochemical reactions. In this process, one molecule of glucose is broken down into two molecules of Pyruvic acid. the steps involved in glycolysis are listed here:

The steps in which ATP is utilized constitutes the steps involved in energy investment. e.g Step 1 and step 3.

The steps in which ATP is produced by Substrate level phosphorylation constitutes the steps involved in Energy payoff. e.g. Step 7 and step 10.

The steps in which energy transfer takes place involve the steps leading to the production of NADH and ATP by substrate level phosphorylation.

For the following questions (4-6), make a diagram summarizing the main steps in cellular respiration (glycolysis, pyruvate oxidation, Krebs cycle, electron transport chain, chemiosmosis, fermentation) indicating the inputs and outputs of each process. This diagram will help you answer the questions. 1- Based at the diagram you drew, answer the following questions: A) How much energy is harvested in glycolysis (use ATP and potential ATPs as metric)? B) When is the oxidation of the glucose molecule completed? Explain what indicated...
