Explain the chromosome theory of inheritance and review the research findings available around 1900 that led to the development of this theory.
In 1865, Mendel published his work but his work unrecognised by years.In 1900 three scientist recognised Mendel work.
In 1902, Chromosomal theory of inheritance was discovered by Sutton and Boveri. By this time Microscope, structure of cell , nucleus and chromosomes was discovered. A new perspective of chromosomes during cell division and gamete formation was shown by Sutton and Boveri with the help of microscopy.Main points of Chromosomal Theory of inheritance are :-
-> Chromosomes and genes are present in pairs
-> Homologous Chromosomes separate during meiosis.
->Fertilization maintain number of Chromosomes in diploid organism.
->Chromosomes segregates and assort independently
In 1910, Morgan also provided Drosophila experimental evidence to support Chromosomal throry of inheritance.
