TAS2R38 ,this genes encodes a seven transmembrane G protein coupled receptors that controls the abiltiy to taste glucosinolates, a bitter tasting compounds found in plants of brassica sp.Synthetic Compounds phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) and 6-propylthiouracil (PROP)have been identified asligands for this receptors and have been used to test the genetic diversity of this gene.

TAS2R are positioned on chromosome 7 are rather polymorphic.Among the recognized genetic variants the diplotype of TAS2R38 consisting 3 single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP) A49P,V262A and I296V has been well described for its purposeful modification.

Other name of gene: PTC, THIOT,T2R61,T2R28

Proteins are excepted to have molecular function and to localize in various compartments.
