Describe one experimental difference between the experiments of Needham and Spallanzani (i.e. what was different between the 2 experiments in terms of their procedures).

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The only difference between there experiment was duration of boiling broth.

Needham boiled the broth containing plant and animal material for shorter duration and sealed the contents. After few days he observed the broth with microscope and found the presence of microbes and concluded that these microbes has been generated from non-living materials.

Later Spallnzani repeated the same experiment in which he boiled the mixture for longer duration and observed that no microbes were present. Thus, Spallnzani disprove the conclusion of Needham's experiment and supported the cell theory.
