Consider two imaginary polymers. Polymer A has persistence length 50 nm. Polymer B has persistence length 2 nm (and hence an effective segment length 1/25 as great as A’s). Imagine that you could take two tiny pairs of pliers, grab a polymer at two points separated by 10 nm, and bend it. A. Which polymer would be easier to bend? Why? B. Which polymer do you think would be a better model for single-stranded DNA? Why?

Answer #1

A. Polymer B would be easier to bend as the persistence length of of polymer b is less then the length of the polymer is used to band.

In case of polymer A the length of polymer used to bend is comparatively very small then persistence length which provide it a rigid structure and will not bend easily.

B. Polymer B would be better model for single stranded DNA which exist in circular form due to it's bending property can bend easily to form circular loop.
