The DAT1 protein is only active in certain neural cells in the brain. The enzyme phospfructokinase (PFK, from glycolysis) is active in all cells. Select (below) all options where you expect to find: the DNA encoding DAT1 or PFK, the corresponding RNA or protein present in these cells.

{DAT1 DNA, DAT 1 RNA, DAT1 protein, PFK DNA, PFK RNA, PFK protein}

Would you expect to find each one in liver cells, neuron cells, or both?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

PFK enzyme is main regulatory enzyme of glycolysis cycle. As we know that glycolysis cycle occurs in each cel of of body an d plays an important re in releasing energy by catabolism of glucose. So this protein will express in each cell both brain as well as in liver.

But DAT 1 protein is neuron specific protein, DNA is similar in all the cell . But different expression of gene occue due to presence of tissue specific regulation ( by presence of activator or repressor). So due to tissue specificity DAT 1 mRNA and protein will be present in only neuron cells not in liver cell.

But DNA of DAT1 present in all cell. As each cell in our body has similar genome.

In Brain cell.

DAT1 DNA -- DAT 1 RNA, DAT1 protein

PFK DNA, PFK RNA, PFK protein

In liver cell

DAT1 DNA ,- no mRNA and protein

PFK DNA-- PFK m RNA , PFK protein
