Histone modifications influence transcription. Select one: True False

Histone modifications influence transcription.

Select one:

True

False

Homework Answers

Answer #1

It is true that histone protein regulates the transcription process.

Histones are basic proteins present on chromatin. They regulate the transcription processes very effectively.

We need to understand that the DNA is wrapped around histone octamers and this forms a ‘nucleosomal core particle’. The most important thing to note is that histone proteins have residues onn their tails projecting from the nucleosome that can be modified post-translationally. Thus, it influences all DNA-based processes and transcription. Some studies have shown that histone core modifications can not only directly regulate transcription, also processes like DNA repair and replication.
