There are two nucleotide triphosphates that are required to synthesize glycogen. One of them is ATP. The second is (provide the correct abbreviation).

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ans:-) The second would be uridine triphosphate (UTP).

The process of glycogen synthesis is called as glycogenesis. In this process, glycogen molecules are added to chain of glycogen for storage. The process is activated during rest and also activated by insulin in response to high glucose levels.

Steps :-

Glucose is converted into glucose 6 phosphate by action of enzyme glucokinase or hexokinase with conversion of ATP into ADP.

Glucose 6 phosphate is converted into glucose 1 phosphate by action of enzyme phosphoglucomutase.

Glucose 1 phosphate is converted into UDP glucose by action of enzyme UDP glucose pyrophosphorylase and using UTP.

Glycogen synthase binds to growing glycogen chain and adds UDP glucose to 4 hydroxyl group glycosyl residue on non reducing chain of glycogen chain.
