Neurogenetics is the study of the role of genetics in nervous system. Neurogenetic conditions are disorders of peripheral and central nervous system caused by defects in one gene or multiple gene. These conditions affect the brain, nerves, spinal cord and muscles.
Monogenic refers to a condition which is controlled by a single gene. So not all neurogenetic conditions are monogenic.
Some neurogenetic conditions are complex, means multiple Genes and environmental factors contribute to development of this disorder. Inherited Polygenic neurogenetic disorders are Alzheimers disease, Parkinson's disease, Schizophrenia, Huntington's disease etc. This type of disease results from multifactorial inheritance . Many complex neurogenetic conditions follow mendelian inheritance pattern. Most of this diseases occurs due to Nerve injury.
