The function of the protein can be based on the evaluation of its underlying distribution. Fusion of proteins with a molecular tag, such as a green fluorescent protein (GFP), allows one to track their movements within a cell. Proteins that enter the nucleus and bind to DNA can be identified by footprint analysis, which is the method used to determine which protein corresponds to this as it regulates gene transcription. Proteins do most of the work of living cells. This multifunctional component of the macromolecule is involved in almost every cellular process: proteins that replicate and transcribe DNA, as well as produce, process, and act with other proteins. They regulate cell division, metabolism, and flow of information and information into and out of the cell.
