Tolerance is the reduced response exhibited by a person towards a drug. A person become drug tolerant when the drug is used repeatedly. The repeated exposure makes the body adapted to that particular drug. Drug tolerance develops because liver actively produces the enzymes required for the metabolism of the drugs, as a result the rate of metabolism increases. Therefore, more amount of drugs will be needed to bring about the action than the amount of drugs used initially, after developing tolerance.
