Mitochondrial transport system are used to transport reducing agent across the inner mitochondrial membrane. Some mitochondrial systems are :
1. Glycerol phosphate shuttle: Glycerol 3 phosphate enters into the mitochondria and dihydroxyacetone phosphate comes out of the cytosol. It is found in brown adipose tissue and conversion is less efficient producing heat. It is found in neck and kidney lining
2. Malate aspartate shuttle: malate enters into the mitochondria and oxaloacetate comes out of the cytosol. This system is present in the remaining body parts.
