William Gurnow, a 42 year old male, was admitted to the ER after suffering a car accident. When the doctors asked him if he knew what happened, he could not speak. He could draw the incident and act it out with gestures, but he could not describe it to the doctors.

In the medical chart for the patient, a PA had written down that William Gurnow was having difficulty controlling the movements of a hand and foot. Unfortunately, the PA did not write down which hand and foot was giving him trouble. Which hand and foot should have been identified? EXPLAIN YOUR ANSWER

The art of drawing , narration are the ones which are processed by the left hemisphere of the brain. It is the left hemisphere that controls the right side of the body. Here, if William is able to draw and show gestures, look for the right hand which can be found more dominant. This easily signifies that the left hand and left leg are the once which were previously damaged. Another test to prove the same is to give an item to be touched and identified by both left hand and right hand. If William does not feel anything being placed on his left hand, it is clear that the right hemisphere of William is damaged which controls touch perception of the left arm.
