The superior ridge of the hip bone is known as illiac crest. The hip bone is basically composed of ilium, ischium, pubis. The most superior border of the ilium region is named as illiac crest. Its a wing like structure and part of illium (largest bone of pelvis region). This illiac crest region of illium is a high rich area of bone marrow, and used for the bone marrow transplantation.
