What do you think of this statement: “The fad that calls for taking a lot of water in a day is not harmful since there is nothing like too much water in our bodies”? Apply your knowledge of anatomy and physiology in discussing this.
Having a lot of water in a day is never harmful. As soon as you drink water, your body osmolarity decrease. This is normal. If you drink excessive water, it further decrease and stimulates your satiety centers of hypothalamus that osmolarity is decreasing which send you signal to stop drinking water. 2nd mechanism is when your osmolarity decreases, osmoreceptors of Hypothalamus are stimulated and they negatively stop the production of ADH and promote diuresis. Renal load of Na+ also decrease and their is more salt and water absorption that cause normal water levels again.
If you have a lesion in any above, then only drinking excessive water is harmful.
