Normally the intact endothelium produces ________ and _________, which inhibit ______________.

Normally the intact endothelium produces ________ and _________, which inhibit ______________.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

nitric acid,  Prostaglandins 12 ( Prostacyclin) , adhesion of platlets.

Intact endothelium functions as a physical barrier which blocks active interaction between the cellular and protein constituents of blood and the vessel wall but also as a biologically active tissue capable of synthesizing compounds that promote and control hemostatic function.  prostacyclin, a product of arachidonic acid metabolism in endothelial cells with vasodilating properties, inhibits platelets aggregation by elevating intracellular levels of CAMP. Nitric acid  protects the vessel wall by inhibiting platelet aggregation , secretion, adhesion Many of the effects of NO are mediated by its stimulation of guanylate cyclase and the formation of cyclic GMP
