You have learned that too much of anything is dangerous. Also, watching TV series and movies made you think that acids are dangerous. But as a pharmacy student, explain why would you not want to completely stop the HCl secretion in the stomach?

In stomach HCl is secreted from parietal cell. Pepsinogen is secreted from chief cell of stomach. Pepsinogen is in inactive form and it has to be converted to its active form pepsin to digest proteins into smaller peptides. HCl converts pepsinogen to pepsin thereby pepsin shows its digestive action. Hence if HCl secretion is completely stopped in stomach then conversion of pepsinogen to pepsin will not take place due to which protein digestion will not be proper. HCl in the stomach also kills viruses and bacteria present in the stomach and hence it keeps the body safe from infections. Hence as a pharmacy student I would not like to stop HCl secretion in the stomach.
