a). In carotid artery massage , pressure is applied on carotid sinus, and bunddle of nerves surrounding carotid artery. These nerve endingss respond to change in blood pressure. When we massage pressure is applied video on karo water sinus which detect the change in pressure and it reduces the heart rate and blood pressure.
This massage can be performed in patients with tachycardia to reduce the heart rate.
b) if we perform carotid massage on a patient with normal sinus rhythmh heart rate decreses, sometimes enough to cause fainting. In some people the carotid sinus is highly sensitive even small tightening can cause fainting called carotid sinus hypersensitivity
