Which ion channel is blocked by the drug Ivabradine?
(A) K+ channel
(B) If channel
(C) Ca (L) channel
(D) Ca (T) channel
Answer ----- (B) if channel is the right answer.
Ivabradine is the drug which is used to reduce the heart rate in the case of the symptomatic case of the angina pectoris and the symptomatic case of the chronic heart failure.
They use to inhibit selectively the funny channel pacemaker current in the SA node and lowers the heart rate and they use to increase blood flow to the myocardium.
Some calcium channels blockers and also beta blockers are also seen to decrease the heart rate and do this work but they show more adverse effect than the ivabradine.
So the ivabradine is the drug launched by the FDI in 2005 for specifically this work.
While k channel and cl channels blockers are other drug which acts in the other coronary artery diseases and tha atherosclerosis etc.
