Answer #1
  • Natural selection theory is proposed by Charles Darwin. He described the organism with fittest will survive.
  • Origin of species is a book written by Charles Darwin which is published in november 1859.
  • In this book , he went into Galpogas island , where he observed many Galapogas finches with all and different types of beak .
  • This is because , larger beaks are required in dry or drought climate , where availability of food and water are minimum .So organism with larger beaks will survive during that time .where as small beaks are required in monsoon climate , where small sized weeds are produced in the island. Inorder to feed this weed , finches require small beak.Hence finches with small beak will adapt.
  • Hence Finches different types of beak were observed .In this way nature itself select the species according to climate and environmental condition for the existence of nature.

This week we have examined the three modes of Natural Selection: directional selection, stabilizing selection, and disruptive selection. Conduct an internet search for an example of one of these modes of natural selection, describe and share it with the rest of the class. You only have to choose one of the three mechanisms, but you can certainly share more if you would like to. Examples: The long average length of Giraffe necks represents directional selection. Average birth weight in humans...

Which mechanism of evolutionary change is random? gene flow natural selection genetic drift sexual selection Which mechanism of evolutionary change results in a population that is better fit for current environmental conditions? sexual selection genetic drift gene flow natural selection Researchers studying polymorphic garter snakes to test whether predation patterns by birds helped to influence the snake’s color pattern. They created clay models of snakes (both striped and melanistic) and looked to see how many of the models were attacked...

4. Assume that you just started doing some research in evolutionary biology and your undergraduate project involves studying an insect species that mimic tree leaves. You suspect that mimicry in this insect is an adaptation to evade predators. How can you test whether natural selection is operating in your study population to produce an adaptation against predators? A fully correct answer will incorporate the assumptions that must be met for natural selection to occur.

Do you use probability in your profession or real life? You most likely do. For example, the chance of rain tomorrow is 27%. We hear similar probabilities in the media all the time. Give an example of a real life application of one of the three learning theories. Be specific in your example, identifying all the components of the example. For example, if you select an example of operant conditioning, tell us if it is positive/negative or reinforcement/punishment and explain why. You may use personal examples if you wish or you may select an example from a movie or television show.
