Question

True or False ? Recruitment is the addition of additional muscle fibers to the contraction.

True or False ? Recruitment is the addition of additional muscle fibers to the contraction.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Recruitment is the process by which additional motor units are activated. A motor unit consists of motor neuron and all the muscle fibres supplied by it. Therefore if additional motor units are activated, then additional muscle fibres get into contraction which makes the process of contraction more efficient and strong.

Example: During standing, type I muscle fibres are used. During walking, type IIa muscle fibres are recruited and during running, type IIb muscle fibres are recruited.

Therefore it is TRUE.
