The anterior thoracic wall and sternum is drained by which veins?
The venous drainage of the anterior thoracic wall and sternum is by Anterior intercostal veins. The upper six anterior intercostal veins drain directly to internal Thoracic vein. The seventh, eight & ninth anterior intercostal veins will drain into the musculophrenic vein.
• The anterior intercostal veins originate from the intercostal space just inferior to anterior aspects of their respective ribs.
• The anterior intercostal veins are present only in the upper nine spaces. Each space contains two veins and accompanies the anterior intercostal arteries.
