GLUT1 and GLUT3 has been reported to be involved in the uptake of glucose by endometrial and breast carcinoma cells

Glucose is provided to cells by a family of glucose transport facilitators known as GLUTs. These transporters are expressed in a tissue specific manner and are overexpressed in many primary tumors of these tissues.

Cancer cells have accelerated metabolism and high glucose requirements, so glucose uptake, glycolysis, and energy production are increased in tumor cells,To provide the substrate for the increased glycolytic activity, tumor cells exhibit an increased expression of facilitated glucose transporter like GLUT1 and GLUT3.
