Describe three structural differences between preganglionic and postganglionic organization between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.
1st difference- the preganglionic neuron in sympathetic system is shorter as compared to post ganglionic neuron. Whereas in parasympathetic system, the preganglionic neuron is longer than post ganglionic neuron.
2nd difference- the sympathetic neurons arise from the thoraco lumbar portion of spinal cord (T1 to L3).
Whereas in parasympathetic system, the neurons arise from the cranio sacral portion ( cranial segment 3,7,9,10 and S2-S4).
3rd difference- in sympathetic system, large number of postganglionic fibres are present as compared to parasympathetic system. In parasympathetic system, the postganglionic neurons are less comparatively.
