why would you want to block the production of arachidonic acid and inhibit the work of inflammatory mediators?
Arachidonic acid is a fatty acid. The oxidation of this fatty acid will lead to the formation of eicosanoids which are the signalling molecules of the inflammation. The oxidation of arachidonic acid activates the Cox pathway. Then by acting on the prostaglandin H2 they are are converted to to different eicosanoids by the activation of different enzymes. The eicosanoids produced are prostaglandins, prostacyclins, lipoxins, thromboxanes, leukotrienes. These are the inflammatory mediators. So by blocking the arachidonic acid this whole system is blocked and the generation of inflammatory mediators is blocked. So the work of inflammatory mediators are blocked with it.
