Which of the following is most closely related to the physiology of the stratum lucidum:

  1. G1….S….G2….M
  2. G0
  3. Functional or positional cell death
  4. None of these

Answer #1

1.C) Functional or positional cell death

Keratohyalin is present in STRATUM GRANULOSUM.Stratum granulosum consist of three or more layers of flattened keratinocytes that are undergoing apoptosis. Apoptosis is an orderly genetically programmed cell death in which the nucleus fragments before the cell die.

2.C) Functional or positional cell death

The stratum lucidum is present only in the thick skin of areas such fingerprints, Palm and soles. It consists of four to six layers of flattened clear, dead keratinocytes that contain large amount of Keratin and thickened plasma membranes.
