Describe the process of bulk fluid movement across capillaries

Describe the process of bulk fluid movement across capillaries

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The bulk movement of fluid into and out of capillaries requires a transport mechanism.

This transport mechanism should be more efficient than the normal diffusion.

This movement of fluid refered as bulk flow.

It occurs by two process

  • Filtration
  • Reabsorption

Filteration

Fluid moves from an area of higher pressure in a capillary bed to an area of lower pressure in the tissue via filteration

It occurs due to hydrostatic pressure.

Reabsorption

The movement of fluid from an area of higher pressure in the tissue to an area with lower pressure in capillaries is reabsorption

It is by osmotic pressure.
