a hypothetical poision
STATEMENT: A hypothetical poison prevents nucleoli from carrying out their functions.
Explaination:
A cell nucleus contains nucleolus. The nucleolus makes ribosomal subunits from proteins and ribosomal RNA (rRNA). It then sends the subunits to the cytoplasm where they combine into complete ribosomes.
The ribosome helps in translation of mRNA and hence helps in formation of proteins from the DNA data. Now if the nucleolus are prevented from their functioning, final step of protein synthesis (translation), will be affected as the number of ribosome will decline.
This will lead to cell death as protein is an integral part of survival for a cell.
Hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any query.
Best wishes!!
