Growth hormone inhibiting hormone (GHIH) is a hormone released from 2 sources: delta cells of the pancreas, in addition to the hypothalamus. Explain why hypothalamic GHIH produces greater inhibition of growth hormone release from the anterior pituitary compared to GHIH secreted from the pancreas.
Answer: Growth hormone Inhibiting hormone (GHIH) is also known as Somatostatin. It is produced from two sources one from the Hypothalamus and another from the pancreas.
The main role of the somatostatin secreted from the hypothalamus is inhibition of hormones such as growth hormone, Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) which is secreted from the Anterior pituitary gland. And somatostatin secreted from the cells of pancreas inhibits the pancreatic hormones such as glucagon and insulin. This is the reason that Growth Hormone Inhibiting Hormone (GHIH) secreted from the Hypothalamus has greater inhibition on growth hormone than the GHIH secreted from the pancreas.
