Describe the relationship between the flexor (withdrawal) reflex and the crossed extensor reflex.
Flexor (withdrawal) reflex
In the flexor withdrawal reflex ,the flexors vin the withdrawing limb contracts and the extensors relax, and in the opposite limb the exact opposite occurs that is crossed extensor reflex.
This withdrawal reflex ,it is spinal reflex to protect the body from damaging stimulus.it causes contraction of all flexor muscles and relaxation of extensors in the limb.
Crossed extensor reflex.
The crossed extensor reflex that is contralateral, the reflex occurs on the opposite side of the body from the stimulus. It compensates for the loss of support when the ipsilateral limb withdraws from the painful stimulus in a withdrawal reflex.
