Make a flow chart on how fluid moves in the nephron.

Answer #1

Nephron is defined as the structural and functional unit of kidney. Its function is to filter urine from fluid.

Fluid to be filter is firstly came to the bowman's capsule which is the part of nephron where the filteration takes place. Blood from afferent arteriole enter into the glomerulus which is the capillaries enclosed by the Bowman's capsule. It end at efferent arterioles which carring the filtered or pure blood out of kidney.

Bowman's capsule consist of inner visceral layer and outer parietal layer which filter urine from blood.

Proximal convoluted tubules is the coiled portion arising from Bowman's capsule.

It continues as loop of henle. Loop of henle consist of decending limb, hairpin bend and ascending limb.

From there fluid moves to distal convoluted tubule.

From here the fluid collected into collecting duct.

From collecting duct the blood fluid enters into renal pelvis.

We know a lot about the nephron from the study of isolated segments and by analyzing fluid that enters the segment and how it is altered as it progresses through. Researchers collected samples of fluid entering and leaving a particular nephron segment that was immersed in a bath solution and then compared the volume and chemical composition of the two fluids to determine if any reabsorption or secretion had occurred.   The fluid volume entering the segment was 1.0 ml and...

A faucet is turned on with a flow rate that allows the fluid to flow smoothly (i.e. laminar flow). As the fluid falls the fluid accelerates due to gravity and the diameter of the fluid stream decreases. The initial speed, at the faucet, is 9 cm/s, and the inital diameter of the fluid stream is 0.7 cm. What is the diameter of the fluid stream 4.3 cm below the faucet.     (Reminder: vf2 = vi2 + 2g(Δy) (using positive direction, as...
