Answer #1

1. In response to an external stimulus such as cold exposure, the hypothalamus secretes thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH).
2. TRH acts on the anterior pituitary gland and stimulates the secertion of Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)
3. TSH acts on the thyroid gland and stimulates the secertion of Thyroid hormones such as T3 and T4.
4. T3 and T4 acts on various body tissues and promote the overall metabolism.

Thyroid hormones exhibit a negative feedback effect on abterior pituitary to inhibit the TSH secretion.
They also inhibit the secretion of TRH from the hypothalamus.

The negative feedback mechanism ensures that a proper signaling level is maintained.

We discussed numerous times the importance of identifying shocks to money demand. In particular, we argued that the policy implications of shocks to money demand differ based on whether the shock to money demand was real or portfolio. a) (5 points) Let us consider a portfolio shock that increases money demand, say due to non-monetary assets becoming riskier and less liquid. Draw a real money demand and real money supply diagram locating the initial equilibrium point as point A and...
