4. Explain the feedback mechanism of thyroid hormone. Start by identifying the different structures
that are involved in the brain and the periphery. What substances (hormones) are released in
response to each of these? DO NOT DRAW EXPLAIN PLEASE
1. In response to an external
stimulus such as cold exposure, the hypothalamus secretes
thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH).
2. TRH acts on the anterior pituitary gland and stimulates the
secertion of Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)
3. TSH acts on the thyroid gland and stimulates the secertion of
Thyroid hormones such as T3 and T4.
4. T3 and T4 acts on various body tissues and promote the overall
metabolism.
Thyroid hormones exhibit a negative
feedback effect on abterior pituitary to inhibit the TSH
secretion.
They also inhibit the secretion of TRH from the hypothalamus.
The negative feedback mechanism
ensures that a proper signaling level is maintained.
