Migrating motor complex is an activity in gastrointestinal tract in the smooth muscles during the fasting stage i.e. between the meals. It serves as housekeeper by propelling the undigested material through the tract. It allows the residues of small intestine to pass through large intestine in the fasting stage. MMC consists of 4 phases with duration of 84 to 112 minutes.
