Which of the following is the correct "exchange rate" between mRNA nucleotides and amino acids during the process of translation?

3 mRNA nucleotides : 3 amino acids

1 mRNA nucleotide : 1 amino acid

3 mRNA nucleotides : 1 amino acid

6 mRNA nucleotides : 3 amino acids

Homework Answers

Answer #1

3 mRNA nucleotides : 1 amino acid.

  • In humans it is triplet codon , in which 3 nucleotides translate to form a single amino acid. For example AUG is a start codon , which consist of nucleotides adenine , uracil and guanine , it translate into form methionine.
  • tRNA read genetic codon on the mRNA by anticodon region , and pick up aminoacid from amino acid pool by aminoacid binding region on tRNA.
  • In this way translation occur by reading the mRNA as triplet codon and form a polypeptide.
  • Option A is wrong because 3 mRNA nucleotide give 1 aminoacid
  • Option B is wrong because it require minimum 3 nucleotide to form a amino acid.
  • Option D is wrong because , in human it is triplet codon , hence 3 nucleotides gives a single amino acid ,six nucleotides translate to form 2 amino acids.
