a) Explain why hCG (along with FSH) could be effective in managing a male patient with low endogenous levels of LH (and FSH).
b) Why would hCG be used instead of LH?
HCG could be more effective along with FSH ( follicle stimulating hormone) with low endogenous levels of LH as it is used as an exogenous form of LH. LH functions to excite leydig cells in testes to produce testosterone but during low LH output, hCG is also used to overcome the levels of testosterone and infertility.
In males, hCG ( human chorionic gonadotropin) hormone functions like a LH. In females it is also called as a pregnancy hormone. In males, hCG is used to overcome the low levels of testosterone hormone and infertility as testosterone is related to fertility in males. HCG is used instead of LH, as HCG triggers in males to increase testosterone levels and also increase sperm production which in turn can reduce infertility in males. HCG stimulates testicles to increase the production of testosterone and sperms and testicles size increases.
