Which of the following is false about water reabsorption at the kidneys:

Group of answer choices

The loops of Henle allow for water reabsorption

It occurs via osmosis

Water moves through aquaporins

A concentration gradient of sodium must be established to move water

Water is actively pumped from the tubules back into the blood

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Water absorption takes place inside the kidneys.it also takes place through the descending loop of Henle .and a Solute concentration(Na+ ) increases in medulla ,an osmotic gradient is established between the Loop of Henle and medulla .thus water leaves the filtrate and move to interstitium through the Aquaporins present in the apical membrane. This process occurs through the osmosis.

Thus Following statements are correct.

  • The loops of Henle allow for water reabsorption.

  • It occurs via osmosis.

  • Water moves through Aquaporins.

  • A concentration gradient of sodium must be established to move water.

Following statement is false

  • Water is actively pumped from the tubules back into the blood.
