Bipedal walking involves 2 main phases-
1.Stance Phase: in this phase ,the foot remains in contact with the substrate (ground ) supporting the body weight.it constitute 60 % of walking.
a.Initial Contact: In initial contact (Heel Strike), heel is the first bone to touch the ground.
b.Foot Flat: In this phase, weight is transferred to the referenced leg.
c.Mid Stance:here there is balancing of body weight on reference foot.
d.Terminal Stance:Here,heel of reference foot rises but toes are still in contact with ground.
e.Toe Off: Here, toe of reference foot rises and starts to swing in air,which is the beginning of the swing phase .
2.Swing Phase: In this phase, the reference foot is not in contact with the ground & swings in air.It constitute 40 % of walking.
