What makes the amount of renin released in the body the major determinant of the rate of angiotensin II production and not the levels of angiotensinogen?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer

  • Angiotensinogen is a precursor for a peptide hormone angiotensin. It is produced by the liver.
  • When renin is released from macula densa cells of the juxtaglomerular apparatus, it converts angiotensinogen into angiotensin-I.
  • Angiotensin convertin enzyme present in lung capillaries helps in conversion of angiotensin-I into angiotensin-II.

As renin do not affect the amount of angiotensinogen produced by liver but, it promotes production of angiotensin-I and eventually angiotensin-Il, renin is a major determinant of the rate of angiotensin II production.
