Explain the processes of venous return in the abdomen
Abdominal Venous return is the amount of blood which is drained from all the abdominal structure and finally into the Heart.
The main vein which drains all the structure in the abdominal area is inferior Vena Cava. IVC drains all the structures from the abdomen which are below the diaphragm.
IVC receive following tributaries-
1. Renal veins- which drain kidneys, gonads and left adrenal gland.
2. Iliac veins- which drains the lower limb and gluteal region.
4. Lumbar veins- drains lumbar region (posterior abdominal wall).
5. Right suprarenal vein- drains right adrenal gland
6. Inferior phrenic vein- drains the diaphragm
7. Hepatic vein- drains the liver.
There's a special portal venous system which drains spleen, gall bladder, pancreas and abdominal parts of intestine. The portal vein finally drains into inferior Vena Cava.
The inferior Vena Cava finally opens into right atrium.
