Question

describe how cytokinins regulate the cell cycle

describe how cytokinins regulate the cell cycle

Homework Answers

Answer #1
  • Cytokinins are the plant growth substances which promote cell division and are primarily involved in the cell growth.
  • They regulate cell cycle by mediating the expression of the cyclin gene TgCYC4. Trans-zeatin, which is a natural form of cytokinin, upregulated the expression of this cyclin and a synthetic cytokinin called thidiazuron downregulated the expression of cyclin.

In this way, cytokinins are involved in the progression of cell cycle in higher plants.
