Are there second messengers in the Insulin pathway, and if there are, identify them?
There are two molecules which are second messengers in the insulin signalling pathways - phospholigosaccharides or inositolphosphoglycan and diacylglycerols. The phospholigosaccharides or inositolphosphoglycan and diacylglycerols are originated from the glycolipid plasma membrane. The phospholigosaccharides causes the phosphorylation of the metabolic enzymes in insulin signalling.Diacylglycerols may cause the stimulation of the insulin in the transportation of glucose through the plasma membrane.
