Using a table, state the layers of the adrenal cortex, hormones produced, their roles, and the hyposecretion conditions associated with these hormones.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

There are three layers in the Adrenal cortex.
1. Zona glomerulosa: It secretes mineralocorticoids such as Aldosterone
Hyposecretion of Aldosterone leads to low blood pressure, lethargy, and increased Potassium levels.

2. Zona fasciculata: It secretes Glucorticoids such as Cortisol
Hyposecretion of Cortisol leads to Addison's disease (Low glucose levels in the blood and increased Potassium levels.

3. Zona reticularis: It secretes Androgens such as dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and androstenedione
Hyposecretion of Aldosterone leads to impairment of secondary sexual characters.
