in general, for a vessel of a given size, a typical artery——— compared to a typical vein

Answer #1

Answer

When comparing a same size of blood vessel, an artery is smaller in diameter than the vein.

  • The tunica media layer of the artery is more muscular and consist of larger amount of elastic tissue. The muscle layer of arterial wall is thicker as compared to muscle layer of the vein wall.
  • This eleastic tissue helps the arteries to stretch and regain the size in order to withstand the high pressure blood flowing through them.

In general, for a vessel of a given size, a typical artery is more elastic compared to a typical vein.

An aortic aneurysm is a cardiovascular abnormality where the primary artery supplying blood from the heart irregularly increases in size, usually in the abdomen region. Because of the aneurysm, the radius of the aorta of a patient has increased in size as compared to a healthy aorta. The speed of blood through the healthy portion of the aorta 0.34 m/s when the patient is lying flat. The pressure difference due to the increase in artery is 30 Pa Consider the...
